Preparations for Basant in Lahore: 105 structures in the Walled City deemed dangerous

Preparations for the celebration of Basant in Lahore are underway, following the authorization of kite flying in the city on February 6, 7, and 8.
Sources indicate that 254 deteriorated rooftops have been detected in Lahore’s Walled City, with 105 buildings classified as highly hazardous. DG Walled City Najam Saqib stated that measures are being implemented to prevent kite flying on hazardous rooftops.
Official authorization has been granted to commemorate Basant 2026 in Lahore, and a notification has been issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore accordingly.
The notification states that kite flying in the city is permitted on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. Only sanctioned and high-quality kite-flying materials will be allowed during Basant.
The production and commerce of kite-flying materials are permitted from December 30, 2025, to February 8, 2026, with public sales occurring from February 1 to February 8, 2026.
