Minister Shehbaz Sharif has congratulated Tariq Rahman on winning the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.

The prime minister thanked the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the elections and said he would like to work closely with the new leadership on behalf of the people and government of Pakistan.

According to him, Pakistan is eager to strengthen its long-standing, fraternal, and complex bilateral ties with Bangladesh in order to further their common objectives of stability, peace, and development in South Asia and beyond.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) alliance has won 212 of 300 seats, giving them an overwhelming majority, according to unofficial statistics.

In contrast to the National Citizen Party, which has only secured five seats thus far, the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance has gained 70 seats.

With a reported turnout of more than 60%, the vote counting process is still in progress. As a result of Gen Z demands, 67 percent of voters supported constitutional reforms in a referendum.

The alliance of Jamaat-e-Islami has acknowledged the outcome of the election and stressed the importance of proceeding in a constructive and good way.
