Provinces are required by the SC to provide reports on their climate change initiatives.
Judge Mansoor Ali Shah led a three-person panel of the highest court that heard cases pertaining to climate change constitution.
The Punjab and Balochistan governments were ordered by the court to furnish specifics regarding the actions taken in response to climate change. “The court questioned what concrete steps have been taken in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite the existence of policies.”
The provinces have until July 15th, according to the bench, to turn in their reports detailing the concrete measures they have done to combat climate change.
Steps are being taken in the province to resolve the issue, Advocate General Punjab informed the court.
The province is to submit a written report on actual initiatives rather than an oral statement, as required by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The province has created an all-encompassing policy, Chief Secretary Sindh told the court.
Justice Shah stated, “Come to the court with complete plan, how much budget has been allocated to tackle climate change issues?”
According to the Chief Secretary, 1,50,000 homes have already been erected in Sindh, and two million dwellings would be developed in response to climate change.
Budget for climate change has not been given in Sindh, according to Justice Mansoor Ali Shah.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary also made an appearance in court, telling the judges that the province has set aside money for addressing climate change challenges and that the administration is moving forward with policies.
Additional hearings on the matter were postponed by the bench until July 15.
