PSL will launch a mechanism for player auctions.

Along with changes to the retention method, the Working Committee of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Governing Council has decided to implement a players’ auction system.

Sources claim that the Working Committee made the decision at a late-night meeting after extensive deliberations on PSL 11 auction drafts and player retentions. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will now review and approve the proposed framework. The PSL Governing Council may also call a full meeting if necessary.

According to sources, Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champions, supported the players’ auction. Hyderabad, Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Quetta Gladiators also backed the plan. Sialkot and Peshawar Zalmi, meanwhile, supported the draft-auction concept.

Five current teams have decided to keep four players per under the proposed retention policy, one of whom will serve as a brand ambassador. While one athlete may be moved to a lower category to act as a brand ambassador, each retained player will fall into a different category.

New teams will be able to choose players from the remaining pool, according to additional sources. A zero-retention policy, which would put all remaining players in the auction pool and choose them through the auction process, was apparently advocated by two new organisations.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will receive the finalised auction and retention formula, and an official announcement is anticipated in the next day or two.
