PTA informs the court that the notification to shut down X has been withdrawn.
Social media network X, which was formerly known as Twitter, was shut down, and the Sindh High Court (SHC) convened a hearing on petitions appealing the decision.
A confirmation was made by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) during the proceedings that it had retracted the notification that had resulted in the suspension of the platform.
In the courtroom, lawyer Saad Siddiqui, who was representing the PTA, informed the judge that the earlier decision that had been issued to restrict access to X had been dissolved. Once the court became aware of this, it enquired as to whether or not this indicated that the platform had been restored.
In spite of the fact that the notification had been removed, users were still unable to access X, according to the petitioners’ attorney, Moeez Jafri, who was representing them.
It was reaffirmed by the court that access to the platform need to be restored because there was no active notification that mandated the shutdown of X. Nevertheless, a different attorney for the PTA asserted that he was unaware of the particular withdrawal of the notification regarding the matter.
Due to the fact that one lawyer had access to the pertinent information while the other did not, the court made the observation that the PTA had assigned different lawyers to handle each case, which was unfair.
For a period of two weeks, the court has postponed the hearing of other applications that are connected to the process of closing X.
