Punjab chooses to step up anti-smog initiatives

As Lahore’s pollution levels rise as a result of northwest winds bringing in foreign pollutants, the Punjab administration has made the decision to step up anti-smog measures and promptly educate the public.
All pertinent departments are now operational around-the-clock in accordance with orders from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Mapping the sources of pollution from industrial cities is one of the scientific steps being taken to address the air quality crisis. This will assist generate a comprehensive record for future reference. The government is hopeful that in the days ahead, these initiatives will result in notable advancements.
Although pollution levels have increased due to the northwest winds, the environment department stated that government limits have not been loosened.
Drone monitoring and ground crews are now working more vigorously in an effort to stop crop wastes from being burned.
As part of the government’s efforts, warning systems, fast reaction units, and real-time data sharing have all been reinforced. Water tankers, inspection crews, and smog control equipment have also been put on high alert around Lahore.
Residents, particularly those in vulnerable groups, have been encouraged by the province administration to limit their outside activities, wear masks, drink plenty of water, and seek medical attention at the closest hospital if they feel any respiratory discomfort.
The Punjab government is carrying out the most comprehensive anti-smog plan in the region, and public collaboration would be essential to further improving the situation, according to Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb.
