Punjab introduces a new property code that requires land grabbing cases to be settled within 90 days.

The Punjab Protection of Ownership of Immovable Property Ordinance 2025, which aims to combat land grabbing and illegal possession of public property, was adopted by the Punjab government on Friday.

Punjab’s land dispute cases will no longer drag on for years, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif declared while chairing a crucial meeting on public ownership concerns. A Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) will decide each land possession dispute under the new system within ninety days.

“No one will be permitted to seize anyone’s land in Punjab any more,” the chief minister declared. The mafia once took advantage of the fact that a small piece of property might be a person’s entire world. Whoever owns the land has the right to it, and the state will support the weak like a mother would. The land mafia chapter has been permanently closed.

The Property Ordinance 2025 mandates that the DRC make a decision in each land dispute matter within ninety days. A Special Tribunal led by a retired High Court judge will hear appeals and have a 90-day deadline to make a decision.

A six-person Dispute Resolution Committee will be formed in each Punjabi district, with the Deputy Commissioner serving as its chairman and the District Police Officer and other officials participating. All private land possession matters will first be reviewed by these committees before being brought before the courts.

The goal of the conference was to get these committees up and running in 30 days. Encroached land will be returned to land grabbers within 24 hours of a decision being made.

In order to guarantee openness through digital records and live social media streaming of processes, the administration also examined plans to enlist the Para Force’s help in reclaiming occupied buildings.
