Punjab supports dividing the gas windfall levy 50/50 under some restrictions.

The Punjab government has made a major decision about the allocation of the gas windfall levy, endorsing a proposal for a 50/50 split with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while imposing restrictions to safeguard its own financial interests.

The guarantee that the province will receive an equal portion of future gas profits is a prerequisite for Punjab’s approval. While Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has asked for a portion of the Rs500 million windfall levy from gas sales, the province has made it plain that it will protect its fiscal rights.

According to officials, Punjab has suggested bringing the gas windfall levy issue to the Council of Common Interests for more extensive interprovincial deliberation. The sharing idea has also received support from the Finance and Energy Departments.

Punjab has emphasized the necessity to share records with all provinces and asked the federal government for complete details of all gas licenses and finds. In addition to firmly defending provincial rights, the administration seeks to guarantee revenue distribution openness.

According to sources, Punjab has emphasized the need for provinces to take prompt action to protect their financial rights. The government demonstrated a proactive approach to interprovincial gas income distribution by reiterating its resolve to take all reasonable measures to safeguard its resources and rights.
