Russia-Ukraine conflict cannot be resolved militarily: Ambassador Asim Iftikhar

In the UN Security Council, Pakistan has emphasized the critical need for fresh diplomatic initiatives to put an end to the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
“We firmly believe that military means cannot resolve Russia-Ukraine conflict,” Pakistan’s permanent envoy to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, told the 15-member council on Thursday.
“The only viable path towards sustainable peace is that of dialogue and diplomacy,” he stated, adding that Pakistan is in favor of using diplomacy to settle disputes. A ceasefire and long-term peace must be negotiated between Russia and Ukraine.
Asim Iftikhar stated that discussion should be done to end the situation and that both parties should settle their differences at the negotiating table. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, he continued, is having a significant and wide-ranging impact on the area.
