Saudi Arabia cautions Iran of repercussions should the kingdom be attacked.

Saudi Arabia has issued a warning to Iran, stating that it will be compelled to retaliate if the kingdom or its oil infrastructure is attacked, as reported by sources to Reuters.

Riyadh underlined its endorsement of a diplomatic resolution to the conflict between Tehran and the United States, while asserting that it would retaliate if assaults on the country persist.

According to sources, the warning was sent before to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s apology to Gulf neighbours on Saturday for Iran’s activities, seemingly aimed at alleviating tensions following recent assaults.

Two days prior, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud engaged in dialogue with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi to elucidate Riyadh’s stance.

The Saudi minister stated that the country endorses mediation efforts or conversations aimed at alleviating tensions and resolving the disagreement.

He further asserted that neither Saudi Arabia nor other Gulf nations permitted the utilisation of their airspace or territory for US air strikes.

The minister cautioned that should Iranian assaults on Saudi territory or critical energy infrastructure persist, Riyadh may permit US forces to utilise its military facilities and would retaliate against any attacks on its energy assets.

Diplomatic engagements between Riyadh and Tehran have persisted since the onset of the US and Israeli assault, with Saudi Arabia sustaining communication via its envoy in Tehran.

Neither the foreign ministries of Saudi Arabia nor Iran promptly replied to Reuters’ enquiries for comment.
