Speeches with linguistic bias could seriously jeopardize the peace in Karachi: Sharjeel

Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Sindh Senior Minister and the Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, chastised the Governor House on Friday for hosting political speeches.

During a ceremony a few days ago at the Governor House in Karachi, he apologized to the Sindh Assembly for the words and concepts used. He claimed that the speakers at this occasion gave speeches that were hostile and linguistically biased, and he strongly denounced them.

Sharjeel Inam Memon underlined that similar remarks have previously caused serious and irreversible harm to the city, and that Karachi has already had unpleasant experiences of hatred, bigotry, and linguistic conflict. Under these conditions, making such claims might seriously jeopardize the calm in the city.

He added that it is regrettable that certain governmental institutions were subjected to unwarranted criticism in addition to nasty and biased statements. Such conversations are neither suitable nor safe for the institutions’ dignity or for maintaining civic peace at a prestigious and constitutional institution such as the Governor House.

According to Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, using these platforms to spread hateful comments is essentially an effort to improve the atmosphere Karachi has already experienced. He emphasized that this kind of expression should not be allowed.
