Terms of Pakistan The death sentence of Sheikh Hasina is an internal affair of Bangladesh.

Pakistan stated on Friday that the recent death sentence issued to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is an internal affair, asserting that the citizens of Bangladesh are entirely capable of addressing their political challenges through their constitutional processes.

A Bangladeshi court condemned Hasina to death earlier this week following a protracted trial that determined her culpability in orchestrating a brutal suppression of a student-led insurrection last year.

The ruling arrives mere months prior to the anticipated national elections in early February.

At the weekly media conference, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that Islamabad has received numerous inquiries over the situation.

“This is an internal issue of Bangladesh,” he asserted.

Significant occurrences in Bangladesh following Hasina’s death sentence

The citizens of Bangladesh possess the capability to resolve their difficulties through their democratic and constitutional mechanisms.

Hasina was found guilty of sanctioning fatal force by a special tribunal in Dhaka, 15 months subsequent to her resignation and flight to India amidst widespread demonstrations.

Hasina’s Awami League party has been prohibited from participating in the polls, raising concerns that the ruling may incite more violence prior to the vote.

During the trial, prosecutors informed the court that they had discovered evidence of her explicit directive to employ fatal force to quell a student-led insurrection in July and August 2024.

A United Nations investigation indicates that as many as 1,400 individuals may have been murdered during the protests from July 15 to August 5, 2024, with thousands more injured, predominantly due to gunfire from police forces.
