The bodies of six US soldiers who died in an attack in Iran are coming home.

Six US service men who were killed in a drone strike connected to Iran have had their bodies returned to the US. They arrived at Dover Air Force Base on Friday.

On March 1, a drone attack on a command center in Kuwait City killed the soldiers. This happened just days after US President Donald Trump ordered military strikes on Iran and Israel on February 28.

Iran fired missiles and drones at US positions and allied sites in the region in response to the operation.

The US named the dead service men as Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, 45; Chief Warrant Officer 3 Robert M. Marzan, 54; Capt. Cody A. Khork, 35; Sgt. 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens; Sgt. 1st Class Nicole M. Amor, 39; and Sgt. Declan J. Coady, 20.

The White House says that President Trump was present at the ceremony to honour the service members.

A dignified transfer is a military procedure that legally brings back the bodies of US service members who died while on duty.

The Armed Forces Medical Examiner System identifies the remains at the Charles C. Carson Centre for Mortuary Affairs after they arrive at Dover Air Force Base. Then, they are prepared for burial.
