The E-challan system in Gujranwala has been implemented.

The Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) inaugurated a live E-challan system in Gujranwala on Wednesday.

The new system will facilitate the detection of infractions such as failure to wear helmets, driving without seatbelts, and utilising non-standard license plates via 1,066 high-definition cameras deployed throughout the area. Upon detection of a violation inside this system, challans will be automatically generated and dispatched to violators using mobile texts.

A PSCA spokeswoman stated that the new E-challan system in Gujranwala will facilitate criminal detection and enhance traffic discipline through the use of cameras. The official stated, “Our objective is to promote safer and more responsible driving by utilising technology to enforce traffic laws.”

The SP Safe City Authority Gujranwala, Irfan Salhriya, announced that the system has undergone testing for the previous two months and is now completely functional. “Effective immediately, e-challans will be issued continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.” The cameras will identify infractions autonomously, without manual intervention,” he elucidated. SP Salhriya stated, “All drivers must don helmets, secure seatbelts, and have their licenses readily available; the cameras will detect any infractions.”

Previously, more than 500,000 automobiles were inspected manually each day by wardens and patrolling officers. The implementation of the e-challan system in Gujranwala will see cameras primarily overseeing monitoring, with ground staff providing support in exceptional instances.

The authorities have cautioned that individuals who fail to remit fines within the designated timeframe may incur double penalties or face legal repercussions.
