The federal government and Sindh agree to implement important railway projects.

Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, and Hanif Abbasi, the federal minister for railways, decided on Thursday to start significant railway projects in the province with the goals of updating infrastructure, enhancing safety, and increasing accessible travel.

Senior representatives from Pakistan Railways and the Sindh government met in Karachi and came to an agreement.

The province and the federation decided to work closely together to implement important railway projects as part of a long-term relationship.

The 858-kilometer railway network in Sindh will be modernized, the Rohri railway station will be upgraded to international standards, unmanned level crossings will be secured, and six important rail routes throughout the province will be restored, according to the meeting’s decisions.

Additionally, Pakistan Railways and the Sindh government approved a 25-year framework agreement.

The two parties discussed programs to restore railway infrastructure that are expected to cost Rs63.26 billion. CM Shah authorized provincial financing for railway development projects of Rs6.6 billion.

According to Railways Minister Abbasi, Rs1 billion would be set aside for the Rohri station’s upgrade, which will be finished in six months. Additionally, the station will have a solar-powered water filtration facility and six new escalators.

In order to decrease accidents, the committee decided in principle to invest Rs6 billion in securing 100 dangerous and unattended railway crossings. In order to enhance regional connection, Sindh is also thinking of acquiring six contemporary DMU trains.

Nearly 67% of Sindh’s population will benefit from the initiatives, according to CM Shah, which would also help connect rural areas with affordable, contemporary transportation options.

He went on to say that better train services will reduce traffic on the highways and give passengers safer access to metropolitan centers.

Senior officials in attendance were Pakistan Railways General Manager Aamir Baloch, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Secretary Railways Mazhar Ali, and others.

According to Hanif Abbasi, the partnership between the federal and Sindh governments will usher in a new era for Pakistan Railways.
