The government announces a four-day workweek for offices.

On Tuesday, the federal government announced an immediate implementation of a four-day workweek for government offices, with the Cabinet Division instructing that operations will occur from Monday to Thursday under the new schedule.

The notification formalises the alteration, signifying a substantial transformation in the operational routine of government entities. Offices will be closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday according to the new schedule.

The Cabinet Division has directed officers in federal and provincial entities with Grade-20 salaries or earning over Rs 300,000 monthly to voluntarily consent to a two-day salary reduction. The plan will exclude employees in the healthcare and education sectors.

The notification has been released in accordance with the austerity package announced the previous day by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
