The government evaluates its wheat buying strategy and guarantees sufficient reserves.

The National Wheat Oversight Committee was informed on Saturday that sufficient wheat inventories are presently available in all provinces to satisfy national consumption needs until the new crop arrives.

The committee, chaired by Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, reaffirmed that there is no threat of wheat scarcity in Pakistan and that coordinated procedures are established to guarantee a continuous supply throughout the markets.

The National Wheat Oversight Committee convened to evaluate wheat procurement strategies, stock availability, and measures for price stability nationwide.

Senior officials from the federal and provincial governments attended the conference, where they provided comprehensive briefings on procurement readiness, inventory status, and supply management strategies in anticipation of the forthcoming harvesting season.

During the meeting, provinces provided updates on their own procurement strategies. The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has implemented a hybrid wheat procurement approach featuring 75 percent public sector participation and 25 percent private sector involvement to improve efficiency and market responsiveness.

The Sindh Government notified the Committee that wheat procurement will be conducted via the public sector to guarantee consistent supply and price regulation.

The Committee was additionally informed that the indicative wheat procurement price has been established at Rs 3,500 per 40 kg, and provinces have been alerted to facilitate the seamless execution of procurement activities.

The Federal Minister asserted that the existing procurement structure will stay in effect for one year. The Federal Government is developing a comprehensive long-term wheat policy for 2026–2030, intended to enhance national food security through modern changes.

He emphasized that the forthcoming strategy will concentrate on digital traceability measures, greater supply chain oversight, more openness, and sustained price stability, facilitating enhanced coordination between federal and provincial governments.

Particular attention was also directed towards consumer safety during the sacred month of Ramadan. The Federal Minister instructed all provinces to implement rigorous market oversight and adopt appropriate administrative actions to avert any unwarranted escalation in flour prices.

Rana Tanveer Hussain reiterated the Government’s dedication to ensuring food security, asserting that collaborative federal and provincial initiatives will persist to guarantee consistent wheat supply, preserve farmers’ interests, and uphold reasonable prices for customers nationwide.
