The Lahore High Court was informed that 75% of schools lack zebra crossings.

A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) requesting the establishment of zebra crossings outside schools throughout Punjab, highlighting significant threats to student safety.
The petitioner, Ismatullah, contended that over 75 percent of schools in the province lack zebra crossings on nearby highways, so endangering children with perilous traffic conditions and exacerbating congestion.
The request states that the School Education Department has previously declared intentions to implement zebra crossings outside educational facilities, although no tangible actions have been undertaken to date.
The petitioner indicated that a formal request was sent to the pertinent authorities, which received no response.
The petition asserts that the lack of safety measures has created hazardous traffic conditions near schools, endangering pupils during their daily commutes.
It further asserts that the authorities’ inactivity demonstrates administrative negligence and inadequate planning for student safety.
The petitioner has urged the court to instruct the relevant authorities to facilitate the prompt erection of zebra crossings outside all schools throughout the province.
