The position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be established on November 27.

The position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be eliminated on November 27 of this year, according to Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.
“The titles of Marshal of the Air Force and Marshal of the Naval Force will be introduced under the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment,” Tarar remarked during Saturday’s Senate session.
He made it clear that the parliament, not the prime minister, will have the power to bestow these titles.
Tarar added that only parliament will have the authority to withdraw the Field Marshal title and position, which will be protected by the constitution.
Draft of the 27th Amendment: Chief of Army to become Chief of Defense Forces
It has been suggested, he continued, that the Army Chief will also be the Chief of Defense Forces.
The minister clarified the difference by stating that the Army Chief is a constitutional position with a five-year term, while the Field Marshal is an honorary rank and title. He declared, “The duties of the Chief of Defense Forces will be taken on by the Army Chief.”
Additionally, Azam Nazeer Tarar notified the Senate that Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General, will retire on November 27.
The role of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee will be officially eliminated on November 27, 2025, following his retirement.
