The potato crop incurs losses exceeding Rs30 billion in Pakistan.

A meeting of the Standing Committee on Food Security convened here on Thursday.

During the discussion, it was disclosed that a potato farmer was being charged Rs8 per kilogramme.

Farmer representative Rao Muhammad Ajmal stated that this year potatoes were sold at Rs8 per kg, while the production cost was Rs25 per kg.

Potatoes from Afghanistan previously arrived in seven to eight days; however, the current duration has extended to 20 to 25 days. The likelihood of potatoes deteriorating is significant, and the price has escalated threefold.
