The potential of the blue economy is highlighted during the Pakistan Navy’s Maritime Workshop.

The eighth edition of the Maritime Security Workshop (MARSEW-8) has finished at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore, highlighting the nation’s increasing emphasis on oceanic economic development and regional maritime strategy.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani participated in the closing ceremony as the chief guest, emphasizing the importance of Pakistan’s maritime sector in influencing national economy and security. His attendance underscored the workshop’s objective of enhancing institutional comprehension of maritime issues and the geopolitical landscape of the broader Indian Ocean.

Gilani underscored the significant potential of Pakistan’s blue economy, highlighting that the country’s maritime resources constitute a crucial pathway for sustainable development. He emphasized the strategic significance of the seas and commended the Pakistan Navy for its proactive role in protecting the nation’s maritime boundaries. He asserts that enhancing national involvement in the ocean economy is crucial for economic resilience and sustainable development.

The chairman emphasized the immediate necessity to enhance Pakistan’s shipping and fishing capabilities, characterizing these sectors as essential foundations for economic advancement. He observed that augmenting national tonnage and modernizing the fishing industry will immediately bolster the nation’s marine-based economic productivity.

Earlier in the day, Gilani was welcomed by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf upon his arrival at the college. The naval chief conveyed gratitude for the Senate chairman’s endorsement of programs designed to enhance national maritime awareness.

MARSEW, conducted annually by the Pakistan Navy, aims to enhance participants’ understanding of maritime security, the intricacies of the Indian Ocean region, and the problems arising from shifting geopolitical trends. The event convenes politicians, academics, government officials, and professionals from several sectors to analyze Pakistan’s strategic alternatives in a rapidly evolving maritime context.

The program also examined regional marine trends, encompassing commercial routes, security threats, and the prospects stemming from Pakistan’s coastal and offshore resources. Participants were informed about the Navy’s measures to safeguard national seas, preserve sea lines of communication, and bolster commercial endeavors related to the ocean.
