The president reiterates his commitment to advancing Benazir’s democratic vision.

Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s vision of a democratic, inclusive, tolerant, pluralist, and forward-thinking Pakistan has been endorsed by President Asif Ali Zardari.
The president added in his message on the anniversary of Shaheed-e-Jamhooriat, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s passing that Pakistanis in particular and the world at large mourn him today.
We pay tribute to a leader whose sacrifice and life are inextricably linked to Pakistan’s democratic development.
He emphasised that her recurrent forays into electoral politics demonstrated an unwavering belief in nonviolent political conflict and pure democracy.
Mohtarma Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was a fervent supporter of an inclusive Pakistan. She continuously advocated for the protection of minorities and opposed racism, intolerance, and sectarianism. She envisioned a federation in which people of all religions might coexist peacefully and with equal rights.
President Asif Zardari underlined that she understood the value of interacting with the contemporary world. She advocated for modern communications, investment, and economic liberalisation in Pakistan during the 1990s. These first actions paved the way for further increases in economic engagement and connection.
One of her most enduring legacies is her bravery in the face of fanaticism. She paid the ultimate price for her beliefs and stood against intolerance and violence. Her martyrdom serves as a reminder that combating terrorism involves more than just security; it also involves ideas, education, and tolerance for differences,” he continued.
Her life provides a clear message for Pakistan’s youth. Advocate for justice, organise in a nonviolent manner, and hold onto hope despite hardship. She demonstrated that the truth cannot be permanently suppressed by facing censorship and repression head-on.
We must choose unity over conflict as we consider this tragic day marking the 18th anniversary of her martyrdom. Vengeance and vindictiveness were never acceptable to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Democracy, she frequently told us, was the best kind of retaliation. The president continued, “Her message urges us to mend political divisions, bolster democratic institutions, and cooperate for the advancement of our nation.
