The Punjab government begins providing food to prisoners prior to their court appearances.
On Monday, the authorities decided to give the prisoners water and lunch boxes before they appeared in court, as a means of accelerating work on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam’s Jail Reform Agenda.
Lunch boxes and cold water are being given to up to 7,000 prisoners per day in 43 facilities located throughout Punjab, according to the authorities.
In addition, jails are now installing flour-grinding machinery. Tractors and a variety of farming tools are being introduced to Punjabi prisoners in order to maximise the utilisation of their grounds. Officials intend to turn the grounds of jails into arable land.
Inmates’ meals are being grown with fresh veggies and wheat, according to the officials. The welfare of those incarcerated is receiving particular attention from the Punjab administration, they continued.
