Treason-related Article 6 is probably going to be changed by the 27th Amendment to the Constitution.

It is probable that the administration will propose more revisions to the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

The National Assembly will initially hear these new modifications, according to a report, with separate lists prepared for the revisions suggested by the opposition and the government.

According to sources, the number of sections in the proposed constitution increased from 59 to 62 with the insertion of additional changes.

According to them, the Chief Justice’s office is the subject of one of the main proposed amendments. In order to eliminate any legal uncertainty, the phrase “Chief Justice” in the law would be changed to “Chief Justice of Pakistan.”

Furthermore, there has been a proposal to modify Article 6 of the Constitution, which addresses high treason. Clause 2A of Article 6 would be altered by the modification. Three clauses make up the article: 6(1), 6(2), and 6(2A).

According to Article 6(1), anybody who attempts or conspires to violate the Constitution of Pakistan by using force or any other unlawful method, or who subverts, suspends, or abeys it, is guilty of high treason.

Anyone who assists, abets, or collaborates in such activities is also guilty of high treason, according to Article 6(2).

No act of high treason (as formerly defined) may be upheld by any court, even the Supreme Court or a High Court, according to Article 6(2A).

Any act of treason as defined by subclauses (1) or (2) would not be recognized or approved by any court, including the Supreme Court, Federal Constitutional Court, or High Courts, under the proposed modification.

The bill will return to the Senate for consideration when the National Assembly has adopted the new revisions.

Eleven modifications proposed by the opposition are being proposed to the 27th Amendment, according to government sources.

According to sources, the federal cabinet will be consulted before the new modifications are presented.

On Monday, the Senate enacted the 27th Constitutional Amendment with a two-thirds majority of 64 votes in favor, including Ahmad Khan of the JUI and Saifullah Abro of the PTI. The opposition abstained from voting.
