3 Sindh Rangers died, 4 injured in attack on Karachi camp by Khawarij

KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) camp stopped a militant attack in Karachi as three assailants were killed in an operation by Pakistan’s security forces, while three Rangers members were martyred and four others injured, the military said Saturday.

ISPR said the terrorists who assaulted the Rangers camp Saturday night belonged to the India-backed proxy militant group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, and had detonated explosives at the main gate in an attempt to break the perimeter protection of the complex.

Rangers personnel reacted quickly and prevented the attackers from entering the camp. Three terrorists were killed in the gun battle, while one injured Afghan national thought to be involved in the attack was captured.

Three Rangers troops were slain in the line of duty while four others got wounded in repulsing the assault, the military said.

ISPR said a clearance operation is underway in the surrounding region to ensure no additional militants are at large. It further noted that Pakistan’s counterterrorism war under the policy of Azm-e-Istehkam will continue with full vigor and those guilty for the attack will be brought to justice.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded the Rangers for foiling the designs of India-backed militants, saying the force has once again exhibited great skill, courage and determination.“The nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its armed forces, Rangers and law enforcement agencies,” the prime minister said. He added that Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism will continue until the menace is entirely destroyed.

“The Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen personnel and paid tribute to their sacrifice,” the statement said.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the incident, and said the martyred Rangers personnel were national heroes. He said their sacrifice will reinforce the country’s resolve to wipe out terrorism and would be remembered with honour.

strikes by militants in Pakistan’s main cities have been relatively rare in recent years but an upsurge in bloodshed along the Afghan border has rekindled fears that terrorists may again be planning strikes on metropolitan centres.

The strike was the deadliest militant assault in Karachi since October 2024 when two Chinese citizens were killed in a suicide bombing targeting a truck transporting Chinese people.
