Pakistan urges the United Nations to combat deception employed by occupying governments to rationalize oppression.

Pakistan has expressed apprehension regarding the strategic employment of information manipulation by occupying forces to obfuscate truths, rationalize oppression, and delegitimize movements for self-determination, urging action to counter this trend. “Through internet shutdowns, restrictive media legislation, and digital surveillance, these authorities aim to suppress dissent and fabricate a deceptive narrative of stability,” stated Pakistani delegate Amanat Ali at the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, which addresses special political and decolonization issues. During a debate on ‘Questions Relating to Information,’ he asserted that this systematic suppression of information obscures human rights violations and contradicts international law and the ethical obligations of member states. Amanat Ali, the press counsellor at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, cautioned that the intentional manipulation of facts to deceive populations, discredit states, and undermine trust in international organizations has become systemic. Pakistan asserts that the prompt and unbiased transmission of information is essential for advancing the UN’s ideals, objectives, and efforts, which can only be realized through the truth and integrity of information. The Pakistani representative stated, “When information is intended to benefit humanity and promote understanding, its misuse undermines public trust, cultivates polarization, and diminishes multilateral cooperation.” “Pakistan aims to strengthen the conviction that information is not solely a commodity, but also a public good and, crucially, a collective responsibility.”
