Before the nine additional judges of the Lahore High Court serve out their one-year terms, the Judicial Commission has agreed to hold a meeting. The Judicial Commission has received these judges’ performance reports.
On February 10, 2025, the nine new judges of the Lahore High Court were sworn in. On February 10, 2026, their one-year tenure is set to expire. However, before their term is out, a decision will be taken regarding whether or not to confirm them as permanent judges. The Judicial Commission will convene in this respect during the second week of January.
Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdum, Justice Malik Waqar Haider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Dogar, Justice Ahsan Raza Kazmi, Justice Malik Javed Iqbal Venus, Justice Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Malik Owais Khalid, and Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood are among the nine other judges.
The Lahore High Court received a letter from the Judicial Commission requesting reports on the rulings rendered by the nine extra judges. The High Court responded by sending the Commission comprehensive performance reports for each of the nine judges.
The sources state that in ten months, Justice Hassan Nawaz Makhdum rendered seven rulings that are regarded as precedents. Judges Sardar Akbar Dogar (11), Ahsan Raza Kazmi (19), Javed Iqbal Venus (22), Jawad Zafar (17), Khalid Ishaq (18), Malik Owais Khalid (15), Sultan Mahmood (12), and Malik Waqar Haider Awan (17) delivered judgments that are considered precedents. These are known as “reported judgments” in legalese.
