Kalash Valley prohibits plastic bags in anticipation of the Chilam Joshi Festival.

Authorities have instituted a total prohibition on the utilization of plastic bags in Kalash Valley to save the environment and maintain cleanliness at prominent tourist locations.

Authorities indicated that plastic bags substantially exacerbate environmental pollution, obstruct drainage systems, and disturb the natural ecology. Due to the ecological sensitivity of the valley, stringent preventive measures have been implemented.

The prohibition is implemented prior to the Chilam Joshi Festival, set to occur from May 12 to 17, 2026, during which a significant number of tourists is anticipated. The utilization, sale, transit, and storage of plastic bags are entirely prohibited under Section 144.

The order is now in effect and will persist for 60 days. Officials cautioned that infractions will lead to judicial repercussions under Section 188.

Residents and tourists are encouraged to collaborate with authorities to maintain the valley’s natural beauty and ecological equilibrium.
