B’desh HC urges strengthening economic and trade relations with Pakistan

The interchange of high-level delegations from both countries and the declaration of a firm commitment to further improve bilateral relationships, according to Bangladesh’s High Commissioner, Md. Iqbal Hussain Khan, indicate that relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan are experiencing positive momentum.
According to a statement released here on Monday, he stated during his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) that the current period represented a “golden opportunity” to deepen bilateral cooperation by improving trade, connectivity, and economic collaboration.
“At present, I do not see any major barriers that cannot be overcome,” he continued, pointing out that minor logistical problems may be successfully resolved via cooperation and understanding.
The High Commissioner cited rising artist exchanges and Bangladeshi players’ involvement in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as examples of expanding interpersonal and cultural ties.
Additionally, he noted that more than 100 Bangladeshi students are enrolled in Pakistani universities, mostly in technical, medical, and dental fields, and that an increasing number of Bangladeshi patients are seeking medical care in Pakistan, including cancer treatment and liver and kidney transplants.
Md. Iqbal Hussain emphasized Bangladesh’s need for limestone and expressed a strong interest in investigating Pakistan’s mining potential, especially the coal reserves in Tharparkar. He suggested that both nations look into prospective mineral trade opportunities.
In his speech, Chairman BMG Zubair Motiwala stressed that bilateral commerce between Bangladesh and Pakistan is still less than $1 billion.
