Pakistan make history with maiden FIFA ASEAN Cup entry

Sources stated that Pakistan’s national football squad achieved a historic feat by securing a spot in the first ever FIFA ASEAN Cup after obtaining an official invitation from FIFA.
Officials said the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) have accepted the offer making it the first-ever participation of the country in a FIFA-organised competition of this kind.
The tournament will be played in Indonesia from September 21 to October 6, 2026 and will see teams from the region compete in a new bid to expand international football prospects.
In Division 1, Pakistan will go up against regional sides including host Indonesia, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand in a highly competitive group stage.
This development is considered a huge milestone for Pakistan football since it will provide the national team with exposure against tougher regional opponents outside of the usual World Cup qualifiers and continental matches.
The invitation followed greater interaction between the leadership of FIFA and the PFF which helped Pakistan’s admission in the competition, officials said.
The tournament is believed to provide an opportunity for Pakistan to enhance its global image and regain momentum in the sport worldwide.
