Afghan border firing leaves one civilian dead, five injured in South Waziristan

Security sources said firing and shelling along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border hit a residential area in Angoor Adda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing a civilian and injuring five members of the same family.
A shell hit a house in the region, inflicting deaths among residents, the sources claimed, noting the incident happened during alleged cross-border clashes.
Security sources blamed the Afghan Taliban government for the strike, saying civilian areas had been targeted in the exchange of fire. The shelling caused death and injuries and local residents were angry about the occurrence.
“The Pakistan Army reacted swiftly to the aggression from the Afghan side,” reports quoted security sources as saying.
The sources further alleged that Pakistani soldiers destroyed many Afghan security checkpoints in the retaliatory operation. But there was no independent confirmation of any stated harm in the available material.
Security officials claimed Pakistani forces near the Pakistan-Afghan border were well prepared to deal with any possible invasion. They said the retaliatory action was going on after the attack on civilians in Angoor Adda, in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Further details on the victims, the extent of damage to civilian property or the circumstances of the cross-border exchange were not immediately available.
