Iran’s interior minister meets Pakistan army chief, lauds Islamabad’s peace efforts

ISLAMABAD: Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces of Pakistan, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday to discuss regional security, bilateral cooperation and border control.

The high-level conference covered issues of mutual interest including the regional security environment, bilateral collaboration and measures to maintain effective border control between the two adjacent countries.

During talks, the visiting Iranian minister appreciated Pakistan’s continuous efforts and key diplomatic role in mitigating tensions in the region. He also appreciated the country’s contribution in fostering de-escalation and as an anchor for peace in the area.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides reiterated their determination to strengthen coordination and improve cooperation mechanisms to safeguard regional security and jointly promote regional prosperity.
