Iran’s foreign minister warns that the attack on an Iranian vessel by Ukraine ‘cannot go unpunished’

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated on Sunday that a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel “cannot go unanswered.”
Tehran said the attack on the Caspian Sea caused an explosion that killed one sailor and wounded another.
Araqchi made the comments in talks with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Araqchi posted on X.
In a statement issued on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website, Lavrov expressed condolences in connection with the death of a sailor in the incident.
Lavrov said Araqchi praised local officials in Russia’s Astrakhan area, where the vessel set off from, for rescuing the crew and “stressed the need to put an end to such adventures by the Kyiv regime”.
Araqchi also told Lavrov of “ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tension in the Middle East”, the statement added.
