‘Bad governance’ led to emergency rule in KP: Punjab CM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has slammed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) administration of non-functional CM Sohail Afridi, stating the state needs public service and development instead of politicking and protests.

The statement issued by Maryam Nawaz on social media platform X said that in the last 13 years, the people of KP have got sit-ins, anarchy, verbal abuse and social media campaigns instead of tangible progress.

The people were not to blame for the imposition of emergency rule in the province but for 13 years of bad government, she said.

Punjab chief minister questioned as to why Punjab and KP, although being in the same country, Constitution and national resources, were developing at different levels.

The difference, she said, was the priorities and administrative skills of their separate governments.

Punjab has started cleaning drives, scholarships, public safety measures, electric bus services, road infrastructure and health facilities including free medicines, field hospitals and mobile clinics, Maryam Nawaz said.

She questioned why such efforts were not being taken in KP and claimed that the provincial government has been more occupied in political activities than in the welfare of the populace.

She also blasted the condition of road development in KP, saying promises had been made but not enough practical work done. She said residents deserved improved access to basic services and protection when it came to healthcare and public safety.

Maryam Nawaz said the situation was a consequence of 13 years of political instability and administrative failures.

She remarked the development activities of Punjab are the proof that focus should be on doing practical work instead of political hyperbole.
“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa needs service, not disorder now,” she remarked.
