Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui urges public participation in politics, calls for new provinces

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui has said Pakistan can no longer afford feudal democracy and dynastic politics and urged the people to actively participate in the political process.

“We need a democratic system in Pakistan that is for the common man,” Siddiqui told a rally in Karachi.

He said that national resources should be shared among the people and political power should be passed to the local bodies.

He stated a parliament with capitalists representing workers could not be regarded truly democratic. He said that the middle class should have the opportunity to represent regular individuals.

Siddiqui appealed to oppressed people to be united against exploitation and hailed MQM workers.

He said the party had battled a feudal and illegitimate structure and added that MQM had requested creation of new provinces 45 years ago.

He renewed his call for population-based provinces and said the matter should now be brought to the masses.

He also mentioned the exodus of Muslims and Hindus during partition, saying that the displaced populations had lost their ancestral lands on both sides of the line.
