A petition against the 27th Constitutional Amendment was submitted to the LHC.

A petition against the recently enacted 27th Constitutional Amendment has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Attorneys Muneer Ahmed and Mian Shabbir Ismail filed the petition, claiming that the modification goes against the fundamental principles of the 1973 Constitution. The petitioners argued that the modifications upset the balance of judicial power and violate the spirit of the Constitution.
The petition claims that the change essentially places the newly established Federal Constitutional Court above the Supreme Court by depriving it of its original jurisdiction. The petitioners cautioned that this change might jeopardize judicial independence and diminish the Supreme Court’s standing.
They further contended that the current parliament lacked the authority to propose such extensive modifications since it is not a “true constitutional assembly.”
Additionally, the petition claims that the modifications go against core constitutional rights, judicial autonomy, and important Islamic principles. It calls the amendment unlawful and harmful to democratic values, and it calls on the Lahore High Court to overturn it.
