After a brief imprisonment, Imran Khan’s sisters are released, and police stop the sit-in outside Adiala Jail.

Late Tuesday night, Rawalpindi police broke up the PTI sit-in outside Adiala Jail and took Imran Khan’s sisters into custody.

Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Uzma Khan, Imran Khan’s sisters, were freed by police at the Chakri Interchange late at night. Following their release, Aleema Khan and her two sisters took the motorway to Lahore.

Imran Khan’s sisters had already been arrested by police outside of Adiala Jail. After being turned down for a meeting with the PTI founder, Aleema Khan conducted a 10-hour sit-in outside the jail. A number of PTI employees were also arrested by police during the operation.

Noreen Niazi’s condition worsened at the Gorakhpur roadblock close to Adiala Jail following the arrest. Aleema Khan asserted that Noreen Niazi was being dragged by the female police officers.

PTI said in a statement on the social networking site X, formerly known as Twitter, that Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi, and Dr. Uzma Khan, the sisters of Imran Khan, were forcibly arrested by police from outside Adiala Jail when they were holding a nonviolent sit-in after being refused a weekly meeting with their brother.

According to the statement, Meena Khan Afridi, the provincial minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, MNA Shahid Khattak, and other party officials and employees—including a number of women—were also attacked and taken into custody by the police.

According to the statement, “Imran Khan’s family members and supporters are being subjected to violence and oppression through what should be regular weekly court-mandated family visits, in accordance with his rights as a prisoner.”
