AJK LA elects speaker, deputy today

Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission announced the schedule for election of speaker and deputy speaker of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Nomination papers for the roles of speaker and deputy speaker were to be filed today (Tuesday), the timetable said.

The same day, the vetting of nomination papers will take place and the election procedure will be finished.

The nomination papers will be submitted between 10 and 11 a.m. The nomination papers shall be scrutinised at 11.15am and the list of candidates shall be announced by 11.30am.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed at 11:45am after which the final list of candidates will be released at 12 noon.

According to the timetable, the election of the speaker of the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be place at 2 pm. The vote for the election of the deputy speaker will be held at 3 pm in the Assembly Secretariat.

The session of Azad Kashmir legislative assembly will be held under the chair of Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar in which the process of election of new Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be concluded.

The election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker is regarded a crucial stage during the process of forming of government after the new assembly members have taken the oath.

In contrast, the PML-N has also nominated its candidates for the roles of speaker and deputy speaker.
