Amid regional tensions, a Turkish general urges the head of the Pakistan Navy to strengthen maritime cooperation.

At Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf was visited by General Levent Ergün, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces. The two sides had in-depth conversations about professional issues, regional maritime security, and opportunities for further military cooperation.
The high-level gathering takes place during a period of increased Middle East tensions, with the developing dispute between Iran, Israel, and the United States significantly affecting the maritime security landscape in the region. In light of this, the two military officials discussed the shifting dynamics at sea and the necessity of concerted efforts to maintain stability and safeguard important maritime routes.
The conversation centred on enhancing cooperation between the Turkish Armed Forces and the Pakistan Navy, especially in the areas of joint exercises, training, and operational coordination, according to the Navy’s media wing. In order to handle new security issues in the area, emphasis was placed on extending current frameworks of cooperation.
Additionally, the two parties examined fresh prospects to strengthen defence ties and assessed current bilateral engagements. The talks emphasised how crucial it is to keep up a strong maritime security posture, particularly while geopolitical events continue to affect vital sea lanes and global commerce flows.
General Ergün’s visit serves as a reminder of Pakistan and Turkey’s long-standing, complex strategic alliance, which is based on common interests and defence cooperation. Both nations have continuously worked together in a variety of military areas, and in recent years, naval cooperation has become a crucial component of their partnership.
