CM Afridi determined to proceed despite ‘threats’ of governor’s rule

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi has maintained that he will not relie from his stance despite threats of governor’s control or emergency in the province.

Addressing a conference on law and order, Afridi said he would not compromise on his philosophy and would not accept any action against the will and public mandate of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He cursed any chair that takes him away from his philosophy, he remarked, highlighting the inadmissibility of decisions that are opposed to the public mandate of the province.

Rs35 billion has been diverted from the development budget and given to the police to improve security and maintain calm, the chief minister remarked.

He said he feared that certain people were not ready to listen to the stakeholders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the province was trying to cope up with the law-and-order difficulties.

Earlier, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar has remarked that the method for imposing governor’s rule and declaration of emergency has been clearly laid down in the Constitution.

Addressing journalists in Islamabad, Tarar stated that if the constitutional requirements and circumstances demand, governor’s control or an emergency could be imposed.

But he said any such move would have to be implemented within the framework given by the Constitution.
