The government funds the Karachi Safe City project with Rs 4 billion.
With a two-year completion timeline, the project is the centerpiece of the Sindh Safe City Authority.
Director General of the Sindh Safe City Authority Asif Aijaz Shaikh has been instructed by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar to finish the project’s first phase as soon as possible.
Within eight hours of solar return, 1300 CCTV cameras with FR and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) capabilities would be deployed at 300 locations in the Red Zone and Airport Corridor as part of the Smart Safe City project.
The system will be completed in 2.5 years, and data including pictures of jail inmates will also be connected.
Constructed next to the Karachi Police Office is the Command-and-Control Building. 12,000 new cameras and the upgrade of 2,000 old cameras will be installed during the project’s two phases of completion.
In addition to facilitating database management for criminals and interaction with national, criminal, and other databases, the system will enable monitoring of hospitals for criminals and suspects, as well as numerous camera tracking against suspects and response.
