KP governor condemns KP govt for ‘failure’ to fight terrorism

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said he had already declared that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is not in a position to stage a protracted march. He said the Constitution has provisions relating to Governor’s Rule and an emergency., Kundi said that the focus of the PTI was still on Adiala Jail and D-Chowk. He claimed that terrorism had escalated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the provincial administration had failed to handle the situation.

The governor also lashed out at PTI founder Imran Khan talking about his legal standing and adding that if the party feels he is innocent, it should go to the courts.

Kundi, referring to the internal disagreements inside the PTI, said that Sher Afzal Marwat had filed a petition against the PTI founder and claimed that the party did not serve him a notice. He further said that Marwat had sought the court on the direction of former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

Some people have made money by taking the name of the PTI founder. Now those who have acquired money in the name of Junaid Akbar should spend it,” Kundi claimed quoting the reported comments of Junaid Akbar.

“The security situation in the province is under question with terrorism on the rise and the provincial government’s approach to talks with Afghanistan,” the governor added.

He further said that security issues had hampered free movement of people in some areas of KP after dusk.

Kundi said PM Shehbaz Sharif had sent repeated invitations to the PTI for negotiations but asked who the federal government should talk to, alleging several factions were present inside the party.

Referring to the scheduled activities of the PTI, the governor said it will become evident how many people participated on October 4. He appealed to the province administration to co-operate with the federation in fighting terrorism and not to help the extremists.

“PTI founder is in good health as per medical report,” Kundi further claimed. The governor also said, “If the PTI founder thought he is innocent then he should go to the court where he can get bail through legal proceedings.
