Mir Raza murder case: IO requests extra time for medical, inquiry reports

The investigating officer in the Mir Raza murder case has sought more time from the court to submit the medical examination and investigation reports, while the Sindh government has already removed the medical legal officer who conducted the first postmortem over alleged lapses in medicolegal procedures.

The case was heard by the Judicial Magistrate East at the City Court, where the investigating officer told the court that the victim’s SIM was required to proceed with the investigation. The court questioned how the victim’s SIM would be obtained.

The investigating officer said an attempt would be made to obtain the SIM using the victim’s mother’s biometric verification and CNIC. He also requested additional time to submit the medical examination and investigation reports.

The court granted the investigating officer more time and adjourned the hearing until August 24. The court also directed the authorities to present progress in the case and the medical examination report at the next hearing.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has removed Medical Legal Officer Dr Osama, who conducted the first postmortem of Mir Raza, and directed him to appear before an inquiry committee in connection with alleged lapses in the medicolegal procedures and postmortem report.

Officials said Dr Osama had made mistakes in the postmortem, and the inquiry committee will question him regarding the alleged discrepancies. Dr Osama was serving as a medico-legal officer at Jinnah Hospital.

In another development, investigating authorities have prepared a list of 10 people and decided to summon them for questioning in connection with the case.

According to investigative sources, Mir Raza had taken loans from some of the people included on the list. Sources said he had allegedly borrowed more than Rs17.5 million from one person, while another person had lent him Rs500,000.
