Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto remembered on the 18th anniversary of her martyrdom

The nation will commemorate the 18th death anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto today, reflecting on her endeavours and sacrifices for democracy and the nation.

The inaugural female prime minister of the Muslim World was slain in a terrorist attack during a public rally in Rawalpindi on December 27, 2007.

Martyr Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan on two occasions. She remained steadfast in her support for the supremacy of the Constitution, the power of Parliament, and the rights of the people.

She articulated the concerns of the marginalised. She attracted farmers, labourers, and low-income people, who remained central to her political agenda.

By implementing people-centric programs and prioritising opportunity, she aimed to enhance access to employment, education, public services, and upward social mobility, especially for the youth.

She denounced sectarianism, bigotry, and intolerance, and continuously advocated for the safeguarding of minorities. She envisioned a federation in which individuals of different faiths might coexist with dignity and equal rights.

Her bravery in confronting extremism constitutes one of her most lasting legacies. She opposed violence and intolerance, ultimately sacrificing her life for her beliefs.

Her martyrdom serves as a reminder that the struggle against terrorism encompasses not just security but also the realms of ideology, education, and respect for diversity.

She consistently reminded us that democracy was the most effective kind of retribution. Her message urges us to mend political divisions, fortify democratic institutions, and collaborate for the advancement of our nation.
