More than 3,600 SIMs of non-filers blocked: FBR

As to the sources, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) receives data on 50,000 non-filers every day from FBR.

Telecom providers have given records of non-filers with the PTA, and the bureau has received a list of 566,671 individuals. According to sources, the agency planned to gradually ban the SIMs of non-filers.

The sources stated that the Income Tax General Rules 114B will be followed in the small-group blockage of non-filers’ SIM cards.

Additionally, according to insiders, the joint working group is concerned about non-filers’ cellphone SIMs being blocked.

This came about the day after the telecom companies and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) decided to restrict 5,000 SIM cards every day from non-filers.

Previous to this, because of operational and technical challenges, the Cellular Mobile Companies had declined to block the SIM cards of 506,000 identified non-compliant taxpayers.

Reportedly, telecom providers argued in a statement that executing FBR’s regulations presents legal challenges.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) called for the authorities to disable the SIM cards of over 506,000 identified non-compliant taxpayers nationwide on April 30, issuing a general income tax order. This is important to note.
