On Human Rights Day, Pakistan reiterates its commitment to equality and human dignity.

In his speech on International Human Rights Day, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to protecting the freedom, equality, and dignity of all citizens as the country joins the international community in commemorating the yearly event.
According to the prime minister, Pakistan is still dedicated to defending fundamental human rights, particularly the preservation of human dignity and equal opportunity for everyone. He pointed out that the topic of Human Rights Day 2025 is “Our Everyday Needs,” emphasizing that human rights are tangible demands like access to food, clean water, and life safety rather than abstract ideals.
He remembered that the day honors the United Nations’ 1948 ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).
On this day, countries throughout are urged to uphold and defend human rights and ideals, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed. He went on to say that Pakistan maintains these rights as part of its fundamental religious and constitutional values in addition to abiding by international human rights accords.
The PM referred to Islam as “the strongest, most authentic and effective source of human rights,” stating that it advocates for equality for all people and envisions a society devoid of prejudice based on race, caste, religion, or faith.
Pakistan has continuously promoted human rights both domestically and internationally as a signatory to pertinent international treaties and a member of the UN.
