Pakistan Navy locates K2 Airways cargo aircraft black box at 3,200m depth

Pakistan Navy has found debris and black box of a K2 Airways Cargo Boeing 737-400 at a depth of about 3,200 meters in the Arabian Sea after an intensive underwater search operation.

The search was initiated after the July disaster of the K2 Airways cargo aircraft when Pakistan Navy troops have been conducting round the clock underwater operations for the last two months to trace the aircraft and recover critical evidence.

The mission was undertaken by naval warships equipped with specialized technology created by the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) to identify and locate the aircraft wreckage in very hard and complex underwater conditions.

The search crews succeeded in locating the black box of the airplane after strenuous efforts at a depth of 3,200 meters below the surface of the Arabian Sea.

The discovery is anticipated to give key information to the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances of the airplane disaster.

The Bureau of Air Safety Investigation (BASI), which investigates airplane accidents and incidents, has been advised that the black box has been successfully identified.

The Pakistan Navy claimed finding an aircraft black box at such a depth is a first-of-its-kind operation for the service, underscoring the scope and technological intricacy of the undersea search.

Black box recovery and analysis could give investigators vital information about the flight and other clues needed to determine the chain of events that led to the July catastrophe.
