Pakistan surpasses vietnam in rice exports during September 2026

Pakistan’s rice exports hit a new high in September 2026, surpassing Vietnam despite hostilities in the Gulf area and interruptions to international shipping routes.

Vietnam shipped 337,000 tonnes of rice to worldwide markets in September, compared with Pakistan’s 420,000 tonnes, according to available data. Vietnam is the third-largest rice exporter in the world.

Despite tensions between the United States and Iran and impediments to maritime transit in the Gulf region, demand for Pakistani rice, especially basmati, remained robust in the international markets, the research said. This helped increase Pakistan’s rice exports.

The data indicated that Pakistan’s total rice export volume climbed by 51 percent in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, encompassing July to September, compared with the similar period previous year.

Similarly, the foreign exchange earning from rice exports also increased by 37 percent during the same time showing rising international demand for Pakistani rice.

Experts claimed increase in rice exports might be a major contributor to foreign exchange profits for Pakistan. But they underlined that enhancing product quality, lowering production costs and strengthening the export supply chain will be required to sustain competitiveness in the global market.
