Pakistani national killed, 11 injured in fresh attack on Riyadh airport

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) stated a Pakistani national was murdered and 11 others injured in a projectile attack at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport.

“The injured were promptly rushed to hospitals for medical treatment, the civil aviation authority said in a statement. The attack also caused physical damage to the airport, and officials were to analyze the damage and check the safety of airport facilities.

Saudi authorities also stated a missile fired by Houthi militants was intercepted in the air.

The new incident comes a day after another hit on Riyadh airport that killed 12 people and injured more than 300, reports said. The Saudi-led coalition blamed the attack on Yemen’s Houthi rebels which claimed responsibility for strikes targeting Saudi installations.

The slew of incidents has increased security fears at the kingdom’s principal airport. The strikes have hampered airport operations and Saudi authorities have been assessing damage and carrying out safety assessments.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed great grief over the reported casualties to Pakistani residents in the attack on King Khalid International Airport.

The prime minister sent a message praying for the early recovery of the injured. “The embassy of Pakistan in Riyadh is in close contact with Saudi authorities and is extending all possible assistance to the affected families,” he added.
