Pakistan’s tuna exports will bring around $200 million.

Following the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission’s (IOTC) issuance of a new fishing quota of 25,000 metric tonnes, which includes 10,000 tonnes of skipjack tuna and 15,000 tonnes of yellowfin tuna, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry stated in his message on the occasion of World Tuna Day on Saturday that the government is considering a $200 million boost for the nation’s tuna industry.

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) formed the IOTC, an international organization with 30 member states.

Its mission is to promote sustainable use of tuna and allied species in the Indian Ocean through scientific research, quota allocation, and regulatory frameworks.

The development, according to the minister, marks a “turning point” for the nation’s tuna industry. Although Pakistan presently collects over 45,000 metric tonnes of tuna annually, he pointed out that a large portion of it has been fleeing the formal market because of uncontrolled operations.

According to the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Pakistan is playing a crucial role globally in promoting fisheries, and the government is doing everything within its power to stop illicit fishing.

According to Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, dangerous hunting techniques have been replaced with longlining technology.

According to him, exports to European nations have slightly increased since the ports were upgraded.
